More than 100,000 people had orthopaedic surgery last year in Australia! More than 50% of those were Hip replacement surgeries!

University of Sydney 12th April, 2022

There were 51,894 hip replacements last year, which was a 95 per cent increase on 2002.

Why? What’s changed over the last decade? Social media use? Sedative lifestyle increases?

We’ve seen a definite decline in physical activity due to the increase in technology use, that’s without a doubt! BUT, there’s a few things about the Hip joints and pelvis that we feel knowing might help in preventing you becoming one of those alarming statistics!

So read on.

What are some of the things you can do to prevent going under the knife for hip surgery?

First of all… the leading cause of hip surgery is OA – that’s short for Osteoarthritis. What are the top 3 keys to preventing OA in the hips?

  1. Keeping a healthy body weight! According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2 out of 3 Aussies are obese / overweight! Let’s do our bit to avoid being one of those alarming stats!
  2. Keep physically active. Sounds simple, so why does this have to be so hard? Ask yourself what’s getting in the way of prioritising being active and fit. If it’s the last thing on your to do list, put it first! I love to say… do the “worst first”… if that’s how you need to look at it! We put ourselves last most of the time. Let’s be revolutionary and turn that around!
  3. Pay attention to pain! This is the BEST way to avoid injuries! DON’T JUST pop a pain killer! Sometimes this helps us ignore and mask the pain to the point where we keep on doing the things that caused the pain… which lead to a higher risk of injury! Not rocket science.. but it’s what we deal with every day! It’s why we like to offer simple self care education!

Throughout the last 15 years since we’ve been blogging at Advanced Myotherapy, we’ve shared a lot of info on how to treat hip pain! We treat it almost daily in the clinic so we just wanted to do our bit to help people prevent becoming one of the 50 odd thousand Aussies getting a hip replacement each year (which is rapidly on the rise).

So, jump on the blog and search hip pain to find out more about what you can do to self treat and recovery from hip pain naturally at home!

Til next time, let us know if you have any questions about how we may also be able to help! Also, check out this quick vid below for a sneak peak on how we can treat hip restriction and pain problems! Be sure to hit Subscribe to the channel and get the latest from Advanced Myotherapy!
