We became passionate about Pregnancy and Postpartum Health in 2013 approaching parenthood ourselves, after years of helping others during Pregnancy as a Massage & Myotherapist. It was in that time that we learned about the many benefits of physiological birth for both Mother and baby as well as the many reasons why people choose Homebirth (in low-risk pregnancies).
Our children were born safely at home with the support of a Midwife and the second time around, a Doula as well.
This is the time in which we discovered the power of a Doula as a Birth support, which lead Leah to advance her skill set to include becoming a Doula, passionate about Homebirth especially.
For this reason, we love working especially with Pregnant women, understanding the many challenges they face, physically and energetically, in order to prepare for the demands of both birth and Motherhood.

So, if you have a growing belly as a Mum-to-be, these are some of the things you might like to know as your baby begins to grow within.
5 Physical Benefits of Pregnancy Massage
-
- Reduced Muscle Restriction & Pain
Massage in Pregnancy works to reduce muscle restriction in the lower back, hips, and legs—areas heavily stressed during pregnancy. This promotes greater comfort and mobility, most needed leading up to labor. - Improved Pelvic Alignment (Balance) Massage works to ease tension around the pelvis and hips, encouraging optimal fetal positioning (like anterior presentation), which can contribute to a smoother birth.
- Increased Circulation & Reduced Pain Enhances blood and lymphatic flow, reducing common swelling (edema) in the legs and feet and helping oxygen and nutrients reach the baby more efficiently.
- Better Sleep ~ Lower Stress Levels
Promotes relaxation and deeper sleep (often disturbed in later trimesters especially), which is crucial for energy and stamina needed during labor. - Reduced Sciatic Nerve Pain & Better Stability
Helps relieve the growing pressure around the sciatic nerve, common in later pregnancy due to uterine weight and postural changes.
- Reduced Muscle Restriction & Pain
Mental & Emotional Benefits

-
- Reduced Stress and Anxiety
Stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest), lowering cortisol levels and promoting calmness. - Enhanced Body Awareness
Helps pregnant women connect more deeply with their changing bodies, supporting intuitive movement and positioning during labor. - A skilled Birth support practitioner will also offer education around optimal posture (and exercises to avoid) during pregnancy, to help prevent poor fetal positioning in the last trimester (for a smoother birth). - Preparation for Relaxation Techniques
Often Pregnancy massage practices incorporate breathwork or mindfulness, as part of their Birth preparation support, which are incredibly useful during contractions and active labor. - A Natural / Homebirth Doula especially, in conjunction with Pregnancy Massage Therapy, will offer education for birth preparation to empower you towards a smoother labour and recovery essential for a better postpartum!
- Reduced Stress and Anxiety
Labor & Birth Preparation-Specific Benefits

-
- Eases Labour Progression
A relaxed, balanced body is more likely to allow labor to begin spontaneously and progress smoothly. - A Pregnancy Massage Therapist will also be able to support your body in easing into labour, with natural stimulation techniques, (which may include acupressure and reflexology and other natural therapies, like we offer at our clinic), as well as resources to support you in your birthing.
- Helps Baby Descend
Loosening tight pelvic and abdominal muscles can help the baby settle deeper into the pelvis in preparation for birth. - May Shorten Labour
Some studies suggest that women who receive prenatal massage may have shorter labours with fewer complications or interventions. A Pregnancy Therapist / Doula can also help you prepare to assist in the prevention of any avoidable interventions / complications with Natural Birth education. - Promotes Hormonal Balance
Stimulates production of endorphins and serotonin, which support natural pain relief and emotional regulation during labor, essential for physiological (natural) birth.
- Eases Labour Progression
